A vintage movie poster reprint of ''Government'', a 1943 American comedy film directed by Dudley Nichols and starring Olivia de Havilland. The film is set during World War II and explores the experiences of government workers in Washington, D.C. during the war effort.
The story of "Government Girl" follows the character Elizabeth 'Smokey' Allard (played by Olivia de Havilland), a young and spirited woman who works as a government secretary in the nation's capital. Smokey is patriotic and determined to do her part for the war effort. She navigates the challenges and bureaucracy of government work while also finding time for romance with her boyfriend, Navy Lieutenant Chris Matthews (played by Sonny Tufts).
The film provides a lighthearted and comedic look at the various eccentric characters and situations Smokey encounters in her job. It also touches on themes of patriotism, dedication to the war effort, and the importance of civilian contributions to the country during wa...
